Let's walk together for COA

Congratulations and well done to Siobhan Warfield, Travelers Insurance Company for successfully completing the 2009 Ladies Mini Marathon in aid of the Children of Africa Charity. In addition, from sponsorship raised, Siobhan kindly donated funds to the Charity

Our Friends in South Africa

A special thank you to Dave Harrison, Whiteriver, South Africa for his continued generosity to the POS. Dave personal commitment to the POS has been incredible. Every month Dave donates vegetable and fruit from his own farm. His continued assistance means so much to the COA but even more to the children. Thank you from all of us.

Another special thank you to John & Di Atherton, Hazyview, South Africa for their continued support, especially their recent donation of heaters to the centre which were very much needed for the winter.

We would also like to thank Sanna Atherton (John & Di's daughter-in-law) for organizing and running an artistic work-shop at the POS which allowed the children to express themselves with some fun included - the photos say it all!!

Finally, we would also like to express our appreciation to Jenny Smart, Hazyview, South Africa for her time and efforts in providing after school educational assistance to the children in the POS via the Caregivers. Jenny, an ex primary school teacher, visits the centre regularly to encourage the Caregivers to work with the children in drawing, making simple prints/jigsaws. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in the children and for wanting to make a direct difference to their lives.

Upcoming news:

Chrona Garvey the founder of COA will visit the POS mid-September and we expect to have a lot more good news to share with you on her return to Ireland. Look out for our newsletter in October 2009.

Taking the Plunge for Charity

A massive thank you to Siobhan Murphy and James Byrne, Travelers Insurance Company, Dublin for braving the cold and taking the plunge to swim in freezing cold water for the COA charity. This annual event has been running for three years and it provides some of the much needed funds required by the charity to cover the expenses of running the Place of Safety. Each year the staff in Travelers has gone that extra mile to financially support our worthy cause and this year is no exception. The total figure raised this year is €1,352.07 and without a doubt this amount will help us greatly to continue supporting 18 children . Well done to all again in Travelers and in particular to Siobhan & James for organizing this event every year and for their continued commitment to the charity goals.
